Everything You Need To Know About Amnesia Haze

If you have read about famous sativa strains all over the world, you have probably seen the name Amnesia Haze at some point. Considered an old school classic, this strain is a cross between Amnesia and Nevil’s Haze and has a satisfying taste that gives off a consistently energetic, euphoric buzz.

It’s no wonder why cannasseurs are attracted to this strain. It comes off as visually appealing with its light green foxtail Sativa buds coated in yellow-hued crystals. It is sticky, kiefy, and gives off a potent, lingering taste once smoked – perhaps what makes it so popular is its distinct earthy, nutty, citrusy flavour that runs smooth on the inhale.

This award-winning strain is 75% sativa and 25% indica, and bred from the cross of four landraces (three sativa and one indica). If you have been to the coffeeshops of Amsterdam, the likelihood of seeing this strain on the menu is extremely high as it is considered a fixture in the Netherlands’ cannabis scene.

Let’s take a closer look at this celebrated strain!

Amnesia Haze Strain

A Brief History of Amnesia Haze

Most classic strains have mysterious origins, and the Amnesia Haze strain is no different. However, cannabis enthusiasts affirm the theory that legendary American breeder, David Paul Watson, is the one responsible for its origins.

In the 90s, Watson created the original Amnesia strain from a cross between Jamaican, Thai, Hawaiian, and Afghani landraces. The genetics of the Amnesia strain were taken to Amsterdam where it was further developed; and soon enough, it gained a growing popularity and interest among other cannasseurs. The story continues when Soma, a seed bank, crossed its original genetics to another strain called Nevil’s Haze. The result is what we know today as Amnesia Haze!

Amnesia Haze was meant to be a clone, but was soon developed as a seed because of the high demand surrounding it. Teaming up with a seed bank in Spain allowed the grower to release feminized versions of the strain. Since then, the popularity of the strain has reached global status, with world-renowned cannabis publication, High Times, including it in their 25 Greatest Strains of All Time list in 2014.

The Effects of Amnesia Haze

Unlike what its name suggests, Amnesia Haze is a strain you won’t forget. In fact, it inspires focus and productivity.

Amnesia Haze reviews suggest that the cerebral high you’ll get from smoking the strain lasts for about 3 hours. It has positive, uplifting effects bordering on creative, optimistic, and an overall sense of happiness. Its indica side gives off a relaxing, calming effect, making it a good choice if you’re looking for a well-balanced high. If you’re trying to finish a painting or a big puzzle, this strain could be the one for you!

The strain has a high THC content, going between 15 to 25% or more, matched with a low CBD content. This means that the buzz is focused mainly in the head. Here’s a more detailed breakdown of the effects of smoking the strain:

Emotional Effects:

  • Happy
  • Euphoric
  • Uplifted
  • Creative
  • Energetic

Those who frequently consume this strain suggest that it has many beneficial effects for mental and overall health. It is consistently described as an “excellent stress reliever,” thanks to its indica properties.

The Strain Is Known to Help With:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Pain
  • Depression
  • Fatigue

Like most strains, smoking Amnesia Haze causes a short-term dryness of the mouth and of the eyes. If you have a lower tolerance, this strain could pack a punch, so if you’re not used to smoking stronger strains such as this one, take it easy and feel it out before taking another toke.

Because its composition is mostly sativa, you’ll still be able to socialize without any problems. In fact, you will maintain a level of mental alertness that you can never achieve when smoking heavier indica strains.

Cultivating Amnesia Haze

This strain is best grown in tropical and subtropical conditions. A green house, or warm outdoor conditions can stretch its growth to two meters. A pungent, fruity aroma usually fills the gardens of those growing this longer flowering plant.

Harvest time can be expected between 11 to 12 weeks, and is usually ready once a thick, dense central cola appears. It will mature like a typical sativa-dominant strain, which means it will develop a bushy, tall growth. It is recommended to use stakes or trellis, as they will grow too big to support their own weight. One good thing about this plant is its resilience against humidity.

This sativa-dominant strain will grow excessively, with an expected maturity after 70 days. The plant is expected to grow up to 150cm, with large spacing between internodes. Because of its unique genetic background, novice growers might find it challenging to manage.

An Overview of the Strain

Amnesia Haze is a strain that’s widely appreciated because of its sprightly, elated buzz. Its unique blend of orange citrus and floral overtones offers a deeper citrus flavour on the exhale. Its long-lasting flavour is not the only good thing about it, as it is paired with an equally long-lasting high.

If there’s another way to describe its effects, it can be expressed as a multi-sensory cerebral roller-coaster. Expect to feel focused and motivated during the majority of the high, ending with a laid-back feeling as it passes. This effect makes it a good strain to smoke for activities such as gaming, writing, making music, editing, or simply hanging out with friends. It can put you in the zone, making it an ideal strain for creative individuals.
